During our series “The Sounds Of America” on 1A, we sampled some of the latest entries into the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress.

In this 1-hour Memorial Day Special, we bring you highlights from the National Recording Registry, added this year and years past.

We hear from Will Rogers, dubbed America’s first political comedian, in “Bacon, Beans and Limousines.” Laced with dark irony, it marked the moment Rogers appeared on a national broadcast with President Herbert Hoover in 1931.

From 2020’s class, the country classic “Wichita Lineman” by Glen Campbell was one of the 25 picked to enter America’s audio Hall of Fame. We also revisit a 2012 entry, Gabby Pahinui’s “Hula Medley,” And we couldn’t forget The Talking Heads’ landmark album, “Remain in Light,” which entered in 2017.
