KiD LIT with Lisa Loeb is a half hour program for public radio celebrating the best in children’s literature.

Hosted by Grammy®-nominated singer, songwriter, and children’s book author Lisa Loeb, KID LIT is produced by Peabody award-winner Ben Manilla with contributions from Harvard educated children’s literature blogger, Lee Wind, M.Ed.

Developed by On the Strip Radio Network, KID LIT with Lisa Loeb is a bi-monthly program for adults with kids or teens in their lives. Covering book titles across genres and age groups (from birth to 18), episodes are structured around three author/illustrator interviews (each approximately six minutes in length) that give us the story behind the story. Some interviews include author-read book excerpts and each episode’s interviews share a specific show theme, genre, age group, or book type.

In between the featured interviews, short interstitials highlight topics such as the latest technology for kids books, reader/bookseller/librarian book recommendations, best sellers lists, award winners, or publishing industry news.

Every episode also features a Diversity Spotlight and Lisa’s Pick of the Week to round out an entertaining, informative and inspiring half hour exploring the world of children’s and teen literature.

Episode 1: The Y.A. Explosion

In 2012 sales of children’s and young adult (Y.A.) books topped one and a half billion dollars. Harry Potter and The Hunger Games started out as children’s books and took over as cultural touchstones.

In this debut episode of “KID LIT with Lisa Loeb,” we explore what’s going on with teen literature, how it’s drawing adult writers and readers, and how publishers are adding new imprints to join in. Three in-depth author interviews from the new YA imprint BLINK anchor the show, with Jonathan Friesen (for AQUIFER, his dystopian adventure where a 16 year old boy has to save the future world, and the future world is a mess), Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon (for DOON, their mystery/fantasy/romance novel that re-boots the “Brigadoon” story) and Diana Sharples (for RUNNING LEAN, her contemporary novel of an anorexic high school girl and the boyfriend who tries to save her.) Rounded out with interstitials that bring more voices to the discussion, this episode will entertain, inform, and get listeners up to speed on “THE Y.A. EXPLOSION.”

Hosted by Grammy-nominated singer and author Lisa Loeb, and produced by Peabody award-winner Ben Manilla, along with children’s literature blogger and expert Lee Wind, M.Ed., this show covers book titles across various age groups and genres to highlight the latest in children’s books.

Episode 2: Creepy, Wacky… and True!

“KID LIT with Lisa Loeb” dives into the world of weird non-fiction for children. We meet a scuba diving cat, an agent from the Creepy Intelligence Agency, an Extraterrestrial named Ethel, and face questions that rate you from normal to one-of-a-kind weird… which turns out is pretty normal, too!

“KID LIT with Lisa Loeb” is a new public radio program directed at grown-ups celebrating books for kids of all ages. Three in-depth interviews with the authors and editors from National Geographic Kids anchor the show:  Robin Terry (ULTIMATE WEIRD BUT TRUE 2), Becky Baines (THAT’S CREEPY!) and author Mark Shulman (ARE YOU “NORMAL”? 2.)

Plus: Technology to tell a story from history, a plane load of teenage Beauty Queens crash into our diversity spotlight, and what would you do if your favorite park was covered with trash? Maybe something Emeraldalicious?

All in all, it’s an episode that plumbs the creepiest, wackiest non-fiction to entertain, inform, and get listeners to believe that it really is CREEPY, WACKY… AND TRUE!

Hosted by Grammy-nominated singer and author Lisa Loeb, and produced by Peabody award-winner Ben Manilla, along with children’s literature expert Lee Wind, M.Ed., “KID LIT” features books across various age groups and genres to highlight the latest in children’s literature.
