The Sounds of America Launches on 1A

Every year, the U.S. Library of Congress selects 25 recordings to preserve for all time in the National Recording Registry. These recordings include music, speeches, public events, disasters, native languages, historical moments, sporting games… audio that is important to our American culture and heritage. Today the Library announced the 2019 list of recordings to be added to the Registry.

BMPAudio’s Peabody Award winning series, now called The Sounds of America, is airing this year on NPR’s 1A program.

The series launches today on 1A, with a profile of Russ Hodges’ play-by-play of the 1951 baseball playoff between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants, an interview with the Librarian of Congress, Dr. Carla Hayden, and an audio tour of the preservation facility.

Our profile features new interviews with baseball legend Willie Mays, ESPN’s Claire Smith and author Josh Prager.
